Registration opens for the Salvation Army to share the Christmas food & toy program - Kelowana News

Online registration is now open for the Salvation Army’s Annual Sharing Christmas Food & Toy Program.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on society, with The Salvation Army experiencing a 61 percent increase in the number of people and families reaching out for help. 47% had never accessed the service before.

As the holiday approaches, the Kilowana / Lake Country Salvation Army is gearing up for increased demand.

“There is a lot of uncertainty in our community right now,” the chief pastor and executive director of the Kilowana Salvation Army told Daryl Burrie.

“Many people have lost their jobs or are facing uncertainty with their job. This is in addition to those who are already struggling with food and home security. Every day seems to bring a new challenge, so we want to come together with those who are experiencing this weight and share some hope.”

The Salvation Army Sharing Christmas program provides food gift cards and toys for families and children. Last year alone, more than 526 families and more than 1,000 children in the community expressed their gratitude to the donors.

“We can’t give this blessing without the tremendous support of the community,” Barry said. “From financial donations to the donation of food products and new toys, every contribution helps us to give hope and respect to local families.

“We are launching our registration much earlier than usual, in line with rising demand and new security measures will change the process and timeline for our delivery in December.”
