School Transport: Drivers want to double their annual premium

School vehicle drivers are demanding an increase in the annual staff retention and attraction bonus, but the lack of human resources in school transport is causing service disruptions.

The Federation of Public Service Employees (FEESP-CSN) proposed in a press release on Wednesday to increase financial assistance to school vehicle drivers from $ 2,000 to $ 4,000.

The union organization also wants sedan drivers to qualify for the bonus, which is still an incentive to retain a low-wage workforce.

“Already, in 2019, the average annual difference between the wages of school bus drivers and other similar jobs in the passenger transport sector is estimated to vary between $ 4,000 and $ 11,000, so our request to set the minimum amount is at the bonus of $ 4,000,” FEESP-CSN Suggested by Josie Dubey, President of the School Transport Sector of and Autobus Gilber-CSN Workers Union President.

FEESP-CSN believes that a change of direction is needed to rectify the situation, but parents of students are concerned every day about the uncertainty of school transport, due to disruptions in services.

“We understand that parents are angry. We are also concerned about the inaction of the government and its lack of focus,” lamented Ms Gratton, interim president of FEESP-CSN.
