Tracey Steadman, a district nurse from Derbyshire, is on holiday in Bournemouth with her three small children, who are aged 18, 14 and 13.

She mentioned there was no sudden explosion but that she read several pops when the fireplace was underway.

Mrs Steadman, 48, said: ‘I did not listen to a bang or anything at all like that. I just turned all over and noticed a big plume of smoke.

‘There had been flames erupting from a person hut and persons ended up compelled to leave their possessions on the seashore to get away properly.

‘There was no time to pack up things like wind-breaks, persons just experienced to abandon them on the sand.

‘We ended up named to the scene at 3.51pm and have fireplace crews in attendance from Redhill Park, Springbourne, Westbourne and Christchurch, alongside one another with the aerial equipment from Westbourne. Added crews are en route.

‘The fire is causing important smoke throughout the promenade and across West Hill Street. Folks are asked to stay away from the space, and to retain doorways and windows closed as a precaution.’

Dorset Police tweeted: ‘Please stay clear of the location of the West Cliff carry on Bournemouth’s West Cliff following a beach hut hearth, which has distribute to nearby seaside huts and is relocating up the cliff.
