“Given the very unique reality of Quebec, we need a law that guarantees that the islands are systematically treated with justice and equity,” said Paul St. Pierre Plamondon, leader of the Parti Québécois, which runs through the islands.

The Parti Québécois guarantees that a law will be passed to respect and protect the status of the Magdalen Islands and to take into account its special context during the development and implementation of public policies.

“The current insularity decree is subject to the arbitrary judgment of the minister and officials and has been practically ignored for 4 years,” the party leader decried.

“For people at home, socio-economic challenges are unique, transport and services work differently, commodity costs are high; geography, supplies, energy, biodiversity… everything is exceptional and has an impact! Our exceptional status must be reflected in law. We act. must be taken and this debate must be ended once and for all,” added Islands PQ MP Joel Arsenault.

The MP recently promised to reform the Air Fare Reduction Program (PRTA) to include ferries and cover up to 60% of costs for consumers.
