University of Utah engineering professor Massoud Tabeep-Azar leads a team of researchers to develop a foot-sized device that can be inserted into the phone’s charging board and tested for emission particles for viruses. Metro UK reports.

“If someone is breathing, coughing, sneezing, or blowing on the sensor, they can tell whether they have COVID-19,” Tabeep-Azhar told the store.

Tabib-Azir said the gadget would be available in three months because he had already developed a prototype of the sensor a year ago to help detect mosquito-borne Zika virus.
