Spain reported 164 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the lowest number in six weeks, according to new figures released by the country’s Ministry of Health on Sunday.

“Sadly speaking of deaths, a 0.7 percent increase from the previous day is a good number,” said Fernando Simón, Spain’s director of health emergencies, comparing that number with coronavirus deaths in recent weeks.

The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in this country reached 25,264.

Speaking at the government’s daily coronavirus technical briefing, Simón noted a “clear reduction in numbers” from new hospitals and admissions to intensive care units, as well as a 0.39% increase in new infections since Saturday, which is about half the number of people who have recovered in the period the same one.

Simón warned that the numbers rising on Sunday could be affected by the long delayed weekend holidays reported from 17 regions of Spain.

More data: A total of 42,111 health workers have been infected by coronavirus to date, the Spanish Ministry of Health reports, representing nearly one fifth of all cases with 19%.

As Spain gradually begins easing from strict containment orders in place since March 15, the four islands in Canary and Balearic will be the first to transition to the so-called “Phase One” on Monday. During this time, further opening of small businesses and lifting of restrictions on further movement is expected because the islands “have no new cases in a few days, and very few, or no new infections.”
