End home-bound academic year

The school year ends abruptly for young people attending Collage de Lewis: Due to COVID-19, half of the fourth- and fifth-graders are lonely until the end of classes.

The regional public health department recommends testing heavily on students at these two levels.

Three out of six groups are secondary IV groups and three out of five groups are secondary V groups. In the first secondary, a group of students was also detained.

In all, there were 11 infected people in the establishment, all of whom contracted COVID-19 outside its walls, said Franకోois Bilodo, assistant director of communications at this private school on the south coast of Quebec.

“When we don’t have class closures from the beginning of the year, it happens two weeks from the end,” he laments.

Depending on the situation, the college management decided to exempt fourth- and fifth-year students from failing all-year exams.

Those who fail will make their assessments online or in class depending on their situation, the employer said in a letter to parents this week.

The group closes a few days before the student vaccinations scheduled for June 14 at the establishment.

It is also too early to tell what will happen to the graduate activities scheduled for June 22, as most students will be alone on their last day.

“It simply came to our notice then. We want to do something, it’s clear, but our tune has been overturned many times, ”says Mr. Bilodo.
