“We have a very good deal here, we are very happy. We have two bedrooms, a bathroom, and then here is the living room, which is the kitchen and living room. We also have a small courtyard,” explains Alexis.
Alexis’ situation is rare, but “in Greater Montreal, housing is available for rent at about 1,500%,” lamented FRAPRU spokeswoman Véronique Laflamme in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.
“And it doesn’t even guarantee cleanliness … We find very expensive houses, which are in very poor condition, but because there is a shortage of rental houses, the landlords with bad behavior take advantage of the situation”, she adds.
Of the roughly 450 homeless people in Quebec, 130 are in Montreal.
