After weeks of debate over the obligation to swear an oath to the king to sit in the National Assembly, the Parti Québécois received a very special gift from leader Marc Tanguay.

As a joke, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, interim leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, gave a biography of King Charles III.

“I just received my Christmas present from PLQ leader @marc_tanguay. An “exciting” read for the holidays, I’m in heaven. Merry Christmas Mark!”, we can read in the PSPP publication. One photo shows the leader of the PQ, book in hand, with a more or less confident expression.

Mr. Tanguay replied: “Dear Paul, nice to read! Merry Christmas”, all with festive “emojis”.

The comical gift comes after the passage of a bill ending the requirement to swear an oath to the King of England, which came into force on December 9.

“The royal oath is old. We want to act quickly to change the law,” said Mark Tanguay.
